Shingo Oka
White floral vase
Porcelain, pigment-drawn pattern, white glaze
Description
Inspired by ancient European architectural columns, the shape of this elongated vase is almost a mirror image of itself. The white floral pattern creates depth against the cream base, while the white glazing is in the Korean Yi Dynasty style. The artist, Shingo Oka, spent a five-year period tracing the history of Japanese ceramics, which also led to exploring the origin of ceramicware from neighbouring countries.

AGOBAY Showroom ZurichLike all of Shingo Oka’s pieces, this pleasingly weighty vase, which stands 32cm tall and 15cm wide, was crafted in his atelier in the coastal city of Karatsu. It’s a place with a rich ceramic heritage and strong Korean influence, due to many Korean potters settling there in the 16th century. Quietly ornate, the vase sits on a base that is slightly narrower than the top, which opens gently outwards, allowing for a large floral arrangement to be placed within.

Taking care of your white floral vase includes avoiding stacking it with or storing it against other objects to prevent scratches or cracks. Wipe it with a soft cloth to dust it.
Rinse it with water using a soft dish cloth after each use. After cleaning it, let it air dry fully before you store it again. Do not wash it with any cleaning agents and avoid using abrasive sponges, dishwashers or drying machines.
The vase must not be directly exposed to temperature shocks – whether from a flame, conventional oven, microwave, induction cooktop, freezer, refrigerator or other source of heat or cold. If you notice cracks, chips or deep scrapes, please stop using it, as these can cause the item to break at any time.
As our objects are crafted in small batches and often made to order by our artisans, we regretfully do not accept any returns.
